Last night I went to the 3D screening of Avatar. There is no question that this movie is visually one of the most amazing visual feats in years. Avatar is set to top the highest grossing movie of all time. Formerly Titanic (also directed by Cameron) and currently Batman - Dark Knight. Many have blown off the plot as drivel, which may be an easy way for people to dismiss it without any action on the subject matter. The destruction, murder, rape, and slaughter of indigenous peoples for non-renewable resources. Here is a great article by Josh Schrei at HuffPo on the plotline and the modern day examples of this destruction. One doesn’t have to look far to find modern day examples both in the United States, Canada, and in foreign countries of slaughter and ruin for oil, coal, or resources to be used greedily by “civilized” countries.

So with this poised to be the largest grossing movie of all time and with two-sequels already planned, will Cameron actually put his money where his scriptural mouth is and pony up in support of insurgents fighting against these “civilized” countries and corporations? Or will this go down as another “message” film lost in its special effects splendor because most of the world won’t get it?
