I realize that everyone has already “been all over this band.” But often I get albums and don’t check them out for a while (I tend to get a LOT of music). I am glad I finally got around to fully checking out The XX. It is perfect timing for me. I needed my fall album. Every year I seem to have that one record. The one that you listen to as you stroll down the street with the cold causing your face to bristle up and the smell of dried fall leaves rushing through your nose. The album you don’t mind walking long distances through the city to and you just might extend your stroll rather than face the subway. The XX are described as an R&B act. But this isn’t panty dropping R Kelly R&B, this is pop music wrapped up in black scarves with dusty eyes who wants to slowly fuck you to submission. Your mind might be “tellin you nooo”, but the rest is saying yes…
